Distance Learning Grading Guidelines

The Danbury administration has been working diligently to create a grading system that is equitable and fair in this time of unprecedented personal and educational upheaval.  A plan was sent to teachers to review, and parents can access it now also (see attached).  While there are guidelines within which we must operate, we are very cognizant that these are difficult times and it is our intent to fairly assess students attempting to complete assignments.  Thank you for your patience as we continue to try to do what is best for all our students.

Please see guidelines links below

Distance Learning

Danbury ISD has moved to remote instruction for students and teachers should now be assisting students/parents as needed to support distance learning.  Teachers have been sharing opportunities for students to practice and reinforce academic content and skills using familiar tools currently used in the classroom.  We encourage everyone to review our Danbury ISD COVID-19 Response webpage @ www.danburyisd/covid-19/

The Distance Learning Plan is posted on the Covid-19 webpage and also links for students/parents regarding Technology. There are 4 interactive documents that we are asking students/parents to fill out if they haven’t already supplied this information to staff members.

There is a Technology Survey for Distance Learning – We want to ensure that students have the equipment they need for learning.  If a device such as a Chromebook or a calculator is needed, then we will try to provide those items as requested and as available but we will need to know that information as requested on the Need a Device survey.  Once this survey is filled out then we will reach out to parents with a specific time for device pick up if they are not able to pick up a device during the designated Device Pick up Day on April 6th.   Also, The Need Technology Support link allows students/parents to email the school district’s technology department if additional technology help is needed while working on school work.  Finally, the Need a Password Reset is the survey that will be used if students need their password reset for programs they are using during this remote instruction time.

Additional Resources may also be found on the page and we encourage you to review the topics of Internet Access, Apps for Video Calling, Resources and Links to our Staff emails.

There will be a Device Pick Up Day on Monday, April 6th from 9:00 am – 11:00 am and also from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm in the circle drive next to Danbury Middle School/Danbury Administration office.  This is a curbside pickup for either a Chromebook or Calculator as requested and as available and approved.  A parent must complete the Need a Device survey for approval and before the pickup occurs.

If you have any questions about the Surveys or the Device Pick Up Day then please email Danbury ISD Technology Director Stacey Matheson @ Stacey.Matheson@danburyisd.org.  If you have not been able to speak with a teacher or do not have online capabilities, please contact campus personnel by e-mail.

District Information…

From Superintendent Nancy Sandlin

There have been 42,922 people tested and 3,266 confirmed positive in Texas.  At least 122 counties have at least one person who has tested positive.  Sadly, 41 Texans have died due to the disease.  Because we are at a critical time in the fight of this disease, social distancing is to be continued.

The Governor just extended school building closure until May 4th.  We will continue remote instruction and will give you more information as it is available.  Stay in touch with your teachers and principals, as we are working hard to create plans and guidance for our continued distance learning.

Continue to monitor e-mails and the DISD website for updates.

Message from DISD Superintendent – Nancy Sandlin

Dear Parents,

Congratulations!  You and your children have now completed one whole week of remote instruction!  We are getting great feedback from you and your teachers.  Thank you for your patience in allowing us to set-up and learn systems so we can create a learning platform we can all use.

That being said, I need to remind you that your students must complete the lessons (paper or digital) as assigned.  These lessons, in addition to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd nine weeks’ grades, will be utilized in determining placement or advancement to the next grade level for the 2020-2021 school year.  As problems arise, please contact your child’s teacher(s) and allow them to help you work through the issues.  We are all in this together and we are amazed at what we’ve accomplished together, as a team, in just two weeks’ time.  This has been a true example of what parents, students, and schools can do when we all work together.  What a wonderful community we have!

DANBURY ISD to suspend normal operations through April 10

Danbury ISD Superintendent Nancy Sandlin has announced that Danbury ISD will extend the suspension of normal district operations through Friday, April 10th in an effort to support the nation’s need to flatten the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Houston area continues to see an increasing number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 and health officials report that this number is expected to continue to increase as more testing is made available.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has outlined the need for all communities to implement a social distancing protocol. The President has publicly shared that the community should not gather in groups larger than 10 people. The District will remain flexible as leaders plan for long-term delivery of instruction and continue to navigate the many details of this unprecedented situation.

Please continue to monitor your email and visit the District website and social media channels for more information on plans to deliver instruction and information on our feeding program.  The health of Danbury ISD students, staff and community is the District’s top priority and District leaders are working to ensure the community has the most current information available.

Hours of Operation

Campuses are closed but you can e-mail campus administrators, teachers, and staff members with questions.  Go to the website at www.danburyisd.org and under the Schools tab, you will find contact information for all campus personnel.
